Gearbox Repairs & Reconditioning

Whining, crunching gears, slipping, delayed engagement or a gearbox stuck in limp mode — transmission faults rarely fix themselves, and they usually get more expensive the longer they're left. The good news: many gearboxes can be reconditioned rather than replaced.

We rebuild and repair manual and automatic gearboxes at our Leyton workshop, drawing on more than twenty years in the trade. We work on European, German and Japanese vehicles of most makes and models, and we always inspect and diagnose before quoting, so you know exactly what's wrong and what it will cost to put right.

Common Questions

Should I recondition my gearbox or replace it?

It depends on the fault and the availability and cost of a replacement unit. After inspection we'll give you an honest comparison — reconditioning your existing gearbox is often the more economical route.

What are the signs of a failing gearbox?

Common warning signs include whining or grinding noises, difficulty selecting gears, slipping, juddering, delayed engagement in automatics, and warning lights or limp mode. If you notice any of these, get it checked before the damage spreads.

Do you repair automatic gearboxes?

Yes — we rebuild and repair both automatic and manual transmissions, including modern automatics in German and Japanese vehicles.

How do I know if the problem is my gearbox or my clutch?

The symptoms can overlap, which is why we diagnose before quoting. Our inspection identifies whether the fault lies with the gearbox, the clutch or something else entirely — so you only pay for the repair you actually need.
